WHAT DOES THE COURSE ENTAIL?
Can I accept this moment exactly as it is?
Can I accept myself in this moment, exactly as I am?
May you give me all the compassion I need.
Self-compassion is the most powerful tool for self-acceptance. With mindful breathing and self-compassion together, the result is self-awareness, self-acceptance, learning and growth, change and resilience.
Resilience is an innate capacity in the brain that allows us to face and face the challenges and crises that are inevitable for the human condition. It allows us to respond flexibly to external events, even those that are upsetting, disruptive and stressful. It also influences our response to our internal perceptions or schemas about those events, and how we view ourselves in relation to those events.
The prefrontal cortex is responsible for the wide range of cognitions known as executive function in the brain, and we rely on it to regulate the body and nervous system, quell the amygdala's fear response, manage a wide range of emotions, tune in to ourselves and others, empathize with ourselves and with others, develop self-awareness and respond flexibly, that is, shift gears, change perspectives and change behaviors when necessary.
A mature prefrontal cortex allows us to analyze, plan, make judgments, discern options, and make wise decisions. This region of the brain develops as a result of our interactions with other people. We learn from others how to regulate our reactivity when we are scared, frightened, frustrated, worried or confused, to perceive if we are in danger or if we are safe in relation to another human being. We also learn from our interactions, how to calm down, as well as how to activate and motivate ourselves when necessary. We learn to tune in to ourselves and to others by being in tune with others.
The development and maturation of the prefrontal cortex ignites in our first interactions with our first primary caregivers, usually our family of origin. Babies learn to regulate their emotions through the emotions regulated by their parents' prefrontal cortex. A baby learns that he or she has value and worth because the parent relates to him or her as valuable and worthy. A baby learns to trust his competence in relationships by relating to him in a resonant and predictable way.
Over the course of 10 hours, we are going to introduce ourselves to the concepts of self-compassion and resilience.
The course is structured in the form of a master class, meditations, interactive dialogue and exercises.
All materials will be made available on a virtual campus to attendees.
This course is FREE for all volunteers in ACTIVO DE LA FUNDACION (in areas of psychology, education, media, translation or projects).
