Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy

Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy is a form of Psychotherapy that includes Horses as Co-facilitators in the therapeutic process.  Our orientation in working in this modality is informed by the principles of Somatic Experiencing.  Somatic Experiencing is a body-based modality developed by Dr Peter Levine which highlights the central role of body-awareness and the nervous system in the psychotherapeutic process.

The Horse Herd is a context that enhances your capacity to become aware of your body and of your nervous system.  This supports the experiential process of working through:

  • unresolved emotions and trauma

  • restoring balance to your system

  •  self-knowing and self-esteem

  • increasing your capacity to address and resolve problems

  • facilitating emotional and trauma healing.

The embodied learning enhances valuable skills such as:

·      self–regulation

·      boundary setting

·      relationship skills

The Horses as Co-facilitators contribute their wisdom in their own unique way, both individually and as a herd.
